We have already informed all our units and members that the Government has been pursuing their
agenda to privatise public sector Banks. In the Budget- 2021, the Government announced that 2
Banks would be privatised. Against this, bank employees and officers have already expressed their
strong protest by the massive strike for 2 days on 15 th and 16 th March at the call of UFBU.
To privatise public sector Banks, the Government has to amend the Banking Regulations Act and
Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Acts. It was expected that the
Government would bring such amendment bills in the last monsoon session of the Parliament in
July-August. But no such Bills were brought.
Hence there has been some anticipation that the Government may bring these Bills in the ensuing
winter session which is commencing from 29 th November and ending on 23 rd December. It is
learnt that according to the legislative agenda disclosed in the Lok Sabha bulletin, the Bank
Privatisation Bill is part of the listed schedule of business.
Already, recently, UFBU meeting was held and UFBU has given the call for State-level Dharna
programmes between 29 th Nov. and 4 th Dec. followed by a Dharna before Parliament on the day the
bill will be tabled in the Parliament and for announcing the strike.
In all the States, our State Federations should take the lead and organise the Dharnas under
the banner of UFBU. All our units should also prepare and mobilise our membership to be
in readiness to participate in strike actions at short notice. Start moving and start
preparing. Keep the information networks ready. We shall also gear up our social media
team to inform all our members about any development.
